HONOLULU (KHON2) -- This Saturday, the Hawaii Lions are rallying together for their Fall Food Drive, running from 8 a.m. to noon, to support families facing food insecurity across the state. What do they need? Canned goods and non-perishable items like water, juice, cereal, oatmeal, snacks, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, sauces, and rice are all on the list. On Oahu, you can swing by the Hawaii State Capitol at 235 South Beretania Street. If you're on the neighbor islands, check out participating Walmarts in Mililani, Kapolei, Kauai, Maui, and Hilo, along with KTA Super Stores in Puainako, Kailua, Waikoloa Village, and Waimea. With many families in Hawaii struggling to put food on the table, the need is great. Hawaii's food banks are currently assisting over 123,000 households—about one in six island residents, including more than 82,000 kids and over 46,000 seniors. Canned foods are especially needed to support food pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens throughout the islands.
