HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Another inmate was accidentally released in Guilford County and is already back behind bars. According to an arrest report, Jessie Dale Steed, 28, of High Point, was "mistakenly released from jail with an active sentence." An order for arrest was issued on Thursday, and High Point police arrested Steed on Westchester Drive in High Point at about 6 p.m. the same day. Steed initially had been charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury.  FOX8 has reached out to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office for more information. This comes just days after another, unrelated "improper release" at the Guilford County Detention Center. According to warrants, Carlos Geovany Diaz-Gomez, 32, of Winston-Salem, used the identifying information of another inmate while in jail and posing as them in order to be released from custody on Monday. He was returned to jail on Friday. Diaz-Gomez was allegedly seen "peering over the shoulder of the releasing officers" which is how investigators believe he obtained the identifying information necessary to pose as another inmate, including the inmate's name, date of birth and address. The sheriff's office improperly released Diaz-Gomez at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, according to Rogers. The warrant for Diaz-Gomez's arrest was issued on Wednesday for felony escape from a local jail and felony identity theft, and he was taken into custody in Winston-Salem on Friday. Following the Diaz-Gomez incident, the sheriff's office confirmed that they did not realize they let the wrong person go until Wednesday and that they are dealing with staffing shortages. As a result of his alleged escape from jail, Diaz-Gomez is being charged with felony escape from jail and felony identity theft. Diaz-Gomez was originally booked into the jail on charges of misdemeanor DWI, failure to appear on felony common law robbery and misdemeanor assault on a female.
