EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The community is invited to enjoy and learn about the desert environment at the annual Chihuahuan Desert Fiesta this weekend. The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens, located at 4001 E Paisano Dr. Day two of the event will be held at the Franklin Mountains State Park and Parque Central in Cuidad Juarez on Sunday, Sept. 22. "We are thrilled to welcome back the Chihuahuan Desert Fiesta for the fifth time as a two-day event," said El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens Education and Conservation Curator Rick LoBello. "The zoo and our partnering environmental and conservation groups are cultural stewards in the region dedicated to supporting education, research, wildlife conservation, and meaningful experiences that every member can enjoy." The event is to educate participants about " conservation from across the region to discuss innovative efforts and share information on restoring and preserving the desert," according to the City. On Sunday, participants can go on hikes and celebrate World Rhino Day at the El Paso Zoo with Taj, the Zoo's greater one-horned rhino. For more information, you can visit the Chihuahuan Desert Fiesta website and the El Paso Zoo website.
