FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - It's a weekend of celebration at the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church. Friday kicked off the 62nd annual Fresno Greek Fest, an event that draws thousands of visitors each year.  "The biggest part of our culture besides you know inventing mathematics and things like that has been hospitality and so this allows us to do what we are trained to do from time immemorial which is to have people at our house, give them food and drink and a good time," Fresno Greek Fest Chairman Peter Vallis said.  The event had dancing for both beginners and more advanced dancers. They took to the dance floor after dark to show off their skills.  "Cross over once, cross over twice, cross over three times and lift your left leg up," could be heard from the dance floor.  While some were busting out some moves, others lined up for delicious Greek dishes. They had baklava, gyros, lamb chops and souvlaki. Visitors could walk around and see meat sizzle on the grill, and desserts were even made fresh. There was also plenty of Greek wine.  "So far we've done eating, and the eating has been amazing next we're going to do shopping after that we're going to do dancing," Marcia Fulkerson said.  "We've got a band from Greece that's internationally renowned we've got a band from Los Angeles we've got vendors bringing in items from all over the place from the Holy land to Greece," Vallis said.  On Saturday, the fest is open from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  It's important to note that the festival is cash-free this year, so eventgoes should make sure to bring their cards or tap-to-pay.
