SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Roads, trails, and camping sites are reopening in Sequoia National Park this weekend following a multi-week closure due to the Coffee Pot Fire. According to park staff, the Coffee Pot Fire is currently 93% contained and does not show the likelihood of moving into the areas that are reopening - as such, all road closures in Sequoia National Park due to the fire will be lifted on Sept. 21. Officials say Mineral King Road and its recreation areas, as well as the section of South Fork Road within Sequoia National Park, will reopen this weekend. Fire crews and engines will continue to be present on Mineral King Road and in the Horse Creek area, so drivers are encouraged to use caution and be attentive while in the area. Park staff say most of the trails accessed from these roads will also be available for use. The Lady Bug Trail will remain closed due to burned areas that remain hazardous and susceptible to invasive plant activity. Atwell Mill Campground will also reopen. Campers will be able to make reservations until Oct. 15, the end of the campground’s season.
