Boys to Men Mentoring held its first Fresh Cuts & Cookout event last month at its headquarters in Spring Valley to prepare young men for the new school year. The event saw a turnout of 30 boys, who were treated to free haircuts by barbers from across the county. The boys also received  essential school supplies, such as backpacks. The day also featured a backyard-style BBQ for the boys and their families. The Boys to Men’s In-School Mentoring Program aims to empower young men through mentoring and community engagement. Since 1996, Boys to Men has guided more than 13,000 boys through the principles of listen, accept, and encourage. Currently, B2M has 750 boys involved with in-school and after-school programs across 39 schools and 12 districts in the county, according to the organization.
