FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The second African elephant calf born at Fresno Chaffee Zoo has been officially named following a public competition. The male calf was born on August 26, just over a week after the first baby elephant was born to the zoo’s other African elephant mom on August 16. The first baby elephant born was named "Thando" and the name of the second baby elephant was put up for a public vote. 2nd baby elephant born at Fresno Chaffee Zoo Of the three choices, the public chose "Davu" as the name of the second elephant calf. Friday's announcement also included a translation of the name: "Davu" means "the beginning" or the "starting of a new age" in Somali. Fresno Chaffee Zoo added a thank you at the end of the announcement to all who participated in the naming process.
