SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Artificial intelligence giant OpenAI is expanding its San Francisco footprint with a new office lease in the city, according to a report. OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, already occupies a massive space it subleases from Uber on Third Street in Mission Bay.
However, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the AI company has finalized a 315,000-square-foot lease at nearby 550 Terry Francois Boulevard. According to the Chronicle, OpenAI is in talks to expand its footprint at that location, where Old Navy previously maintained its headquarters.
Cisco layoffs to impact hundreds of Bay Area workers
The newspaper cited a real estate industry source with direct knowledge of the deal. The story was also reported in the San Francisco Business Times.
The reports indicate potential good news for San Francisco's beleaguered office space market, which has struggled to rebound in the wake of the pandemic pivot toward remote work. The news of OpenAI's possible expansion also comes on the heels of substantial Bay Area tech layoffs from Cisco and IBM.
