WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The West Springfield police are alerting residents of a recent scheme threatening to share explicit content. MassDOT: Do not open links in text messages requesting payment According to the West Springfield Police Department, on Thursday officers received two reports from separate individuals who had emails threatening to share explicit videos and photos of them online. To avoid the content being shared online, the con artists are requesting payment via Bitcoin. The scheme has been reported to police by Southampton residents. The email may contain a picture of the home where the victim lived, their name, phone number, and address. Southampton police shared an image of the email scheme below: (Southampton Police Department) If you receive an email similar to this, police say not to respond in any way. The incident should be reported to your local police department.
