CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A report of an apartment fire on Friday morning turned out to be food on the stove, but the the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS Department still used it as an opportunity to highlight its new 911 technology. According to the department, units responded to an apartment building on the 300 block of Karl Linn Drive for a report of an apartment fire on the morning of Friday, Sept. 20, which was determined to be food that was left unattended on a stove. The department said this call was an example of successful implementation of the Chesterfield Emergency Communications Center's new 911 technology. Dispatchers sent a link to the caller's cell phone, which showed them a live video of the scene from the caller's phone. The technology was launched in the county at the beginning of September and gives the Emergency Communications Center a better understanding of what resources are needed to respond to calls.
