WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — State and local leaders gathered at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Warwick campus Friday to celebrate the completion of a $1.8 million upgrade to the campus bus stop. The project, completed in partnership with the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, included expanded shelters, improved lighting, and increased space to accommodate more riders. “Another aspect of making college accessible is being able to get there,” Sen. Jack Reed said. “This will help many students, particularly those from low-income families, arrive on time.” RIPTA said the enhancements are part of a larger initiative to improve rider experience, ensuring students and residents can easily access public transportation. “You know, this is just one of many things our state is doing to support hardworking students and Rhode Islanders,” Gov. Dan McKee said. “I’m thrilled to help mark this special occasion here at CCRI.” Officials said the improvements at the Knight Campus will provide a safer, better experience for riders.
