NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released video of two troopers working together to stop a wrong-way driver on September 8. According to OHP, Lieutenants Aaron Nickell and Eric Foster were traveling on I-35 near Norman just after midnight when they received a call about a driver traveling northbound on the inside shoulder of the southbound lanes. LOCAL NEWS: Family’s Ring doorbell catches suspected criminal Officials say the driver traveled at least six miles, all the way from Indian Hills Rd. to SE 82nd St. The footage shows the troopers using their vehicles to keep the driver from leaving. They worked together to stop the driver before anyone got hurt. "In our mindset, that is what scares us the most, that's what makes our heart beat, is we need to get there before a crash happens," said Lt. Foster. The driver 34-year-old Chris Ozment was arrested shortly after for impaired driving. In the affidavit says Ozment admitted to using Dabs, which is a type of THC. "We're starting to see more and more that the intoxicated drivers are not alcohol. They're either combined with alcohol, they're prescription drugs or they're other substances, other illegal substances, THC, things like that are really showing themselves on a high percentage of our DUI arrests," said Lt. Foster. In fact, OHP says driving under the influence of alcohol has actually decreased, but illegal drug use has increased, causing more and more collisions. "We're seeing this all too often on Oklahoma interstates, inside Oklahoma City. Wrong way drivers are happening over and over and over again and, you know, it's dangerous for families, just innocent families just driving on the interstate," said Lt. Foster Ozment is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs and endangering others while eluding police, which is a felony. His preliminary hearing is set for October 22.
