(Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Sept. 20)–There’s an increase in political campaign signs being stolen or vandalized in Lincoln and Police have worked at least five cases this month. On Friday, Lincoln Police Public Information Manager Erika Thomas told reporters most of these cases going back to Sept. 4 have happened in the south part of the city. This week, LPD was called about a sign near 16th and Old Cheney, which had a campaign sign for Donald Trump covered in barbed wire. Lincoln Transportation and Utilities crews removed the sign and barbed wire because of violations of city code. The sign was left on the property and put back up again, but stolen on Sept. 4. Police say the property owner replaced the sign, but it was vandalized with spray paint on Tuesday. Another case reported on Monday, police say a Kamala Harris sign was stolen from a yard near Lincoln Pius X High School. Thomas says residents that have political signs on their property should review city municipal codes and state statutes. If anyone is caught vandalizing or stealing signs, there could be a fine of between $250 to $500, with a possibility of up to six months in jail.
