GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Guilford County Sheriff's Office said investigators believe more than one person was involved in an attempted robbery and fatal shooting in Whitsett earlier this month. In a statement released on Friday afternoon, the GCSO said, 'We do believe others are involved, but we are not releasing names or the number of possible suspects.'" The full statement is provided below: We do believe others are involved, but we are not releasing names or the number of possible suspects as that information is still not confirmed/unknown. There is no further information to share. This investigation is still active and ongoing.  GCSO The GCSO says that around 9:15 a.m. on Sept. 10, deputies came to the parking lot of the Stoney Creek Village shopping center on 6307 Burlington Road in Whitsett after getting a report of an attempted robbery of a Brink’s truck. While they were on the way to the scene, they were alerted that there had been a shooting. At the scene, deputies found 26-year-old Devonte Eugene Scott of Albemarle, dead from a gunshot wound. The shooting was an isolated incident. At the scene A witness at the scene tells FOX8 they heard gunshots in the area and saw people running for cover. “I was scared to go over there,” said a woman who was going to Food Lion to buy ice cream for her kids. “We moved to this area .. because we thought it would be safe, and it’s not.” She was parked about 60 feet away from the ATM in her car when she heard the shots. “I got out when I was on the phone with the lady from 911 and went to look at him. The man was lying on the ground, and … he moved a little bit,” she said.
