RICE LAKE, Wis. (WFRV) - The Rice Lake Police Department is investigating a case regarding multiple gunshot reports that were the sound of a suspect's vehicle. According to the release, Barron County Communications Center officials received a citizen report around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday of an active shooting near Walmart, to which multiple officers responded. However, additional reports of gunshots being fired from a moving vehicle came in near the Rice Lake Middle School. Officers reportedly found no evidence of such an incident, and then a subsequent report came in about a suspect vehicle that had left westbound on West Allen Street. More gunshots were reported near a T-Mobile store, and around that time, the suspect vehicle's two occupants were detained after being spotted northbound on West Avenue. Preliminary investigation results revealed that the car was reportedly modified to cause the vehicle to 'intentionally backfire' while accelerating, resulting in gunshot-like sounds. No firearms were found, and no more evidence of the shootings was found.
