MANDAN, ND (KXNET) — The man charged with the death of a Mercer County sheriff's deputy will not go to trial.
On Friday in court, Ian Cramer, son of Senator Kevin Cramer, pleaded guilty to nine counts, which includes homicide while fleeing a peace officer.
The incident happened in December of last year when Cramer led deputies and police officers on a pursuit west of Hazen.
Prosecutors say he slammed into deputy Paul Martin's patrol vehicle, killing him
Cramer's trial was set to happen next week, but in court on Friday, Cramer didn't give a reason for changing his plea.

"It states that during a high-speed pursuit of law enforcement, you refused to halt your vehicle and collided with Deputy Paul Martin's patrol vehicle, causing the death of Paul Martin. That is an 'A' felony that carries a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine and $1,000 in fees. Do you understand that charge?" Judge Bobbi Weiler asked.
"Yes," Cramer responded.
"And are you pleading guilty or not guilty?" Judge Weiler asked.
"Guilty," Cramer said.
So far, Cramer's sentencing is scheduled for December 30. Judge Bobbi Weiler ordered a pre-sentence investigation as well as a mental health evaluation for Cramer.
