VALLEY CITY, ND (KXNET) — Valley City has just been named an American World War II Heritage City by the National Park Service (NPS). North Dakota's Congressional delegation, which includes senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer, as well as Representative Kelly Armstrong, announced on Friday that their push for the city's recognition was successful. “North Dakota has a rich heritage of military service, which continues to this day. This designation recognizes Valley City’s historic contributions to the security of our nation and our allies during World War II, as well as humanitarian efforts to rescue those escaping persecution," said the delegation. "In this and other ways, we work to honor and remember the dedicated service of our veterans across the generations.” Minot Rural Fire Department to get lifesaving upgrades Earlier this year, the delegation advocated on behalf of the Barnes County Historical Society's application to the NPS.
