SELFRIDGE, ND (KXNET) — A woman was arrested by an FBI agent after she's believed to have set fire to a small-town post office in North Dakota. The incident happened around 1:40 a.m. on Monday when firefighters in Selfridge were alerted that the post office was on fire. According to documents filed in court, witnesses say the day before, they saw a woman, Melody Walker-White Twin, sitting along Main Street and yelling racist remarks at people and talking about burning the town down. Firefighters showed up, but say there wasn't much they could do to salvage the more than 100-year-old building. The building was formerly a grocery store and then a bank before being used as a post office. Nobody was inside when the fire happened, but the building was destroyed, the only piece that is still standing is the vault. Senator Hoeven pushes to support volunteer firefighters "Hopefully they keep investigating and they push through with it and don't just kind of forget about it and let her walk away from what happened, which down here happens quite often," said Selfridge Rural Firefighter, Brent Volk. Both BIA and FBI agents talked with people in Selfridge about the fire. Witnesses told agents they had seen Walker-White Twin the day before the fire throwing rocks at the windows of the post office. Walker-White Twin is now charged with three counts, including disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and injury to public property. Volk tells KX News Selfridge is now working to set up temporary post office boxes for people to get their mail. In the meantime, neighbors have to go to Fort Yates to send and receive mail.
