AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Following the arrest of a man arrested in connection with a July 2021 deadly stabbing last week, an arrest affidavit obtained by KXAN Friday provided more details on how investigators were able to make that arrest. On July 23, 2021, Austin 911 received a call around 10:20 p.m. from a man who said he was stabbed. That man was later identified as Nikolas Martinez, 23, according to the Austin Police Department. Officers and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived at a convenience store in south Austin where Martinez was found on the ground in front of the store. He was later pronounced dead around 10:47 p.m., according to police. (KXAN photo) Investigators did not find leads in the case until June when a witness submitted an anonymous tip with the APD Homicide Unit, according to the affidavit. The witness said they saw Martinez get stabbed one time by the suspect who then left the scene after. The witness said that suspect was known as Chris. Court documents identified the suspect as Mithovar Christopher Antoine Jr., 22. The witness told investigators Antoine may have been around 18 or 19 years old at the time the murder happened, court records said. The witness also said Antoine lived in Temple. Investigators were able to obtain Antoine's cellphone records, which showed he was in the area of the murder at the time it happened, according to the affidavit. Mugshot of Mithovar Antoine Jr. (APD photo) A search warrant was obtained for Antoine's Google information, which showed he searched for "people getting stabbed in austin 2021" and looked at multiple news stories trying to find the stabbing he was suspected of being involved in, according to the affidavit. The investigation continued until Antoine was arrested Sept. 11 in Temple. According to APD, he was booked into jail on a $150,000 bond. He bonded out on Sept. 16.
