Current and former residents of Fairport Harbor, as well as anyone else who loves the village, are invited to an upcoming public event slated for later this month. The 2024 Fairport Harbor Community Day will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 29. Sponsored by Fairport Harbor Civic Club, Community Day is being held in the village’s Memorial Park, located on Third Street between Plum and Eagle streets. Visitors can enjoy food, entertainment, games, raffles and socializing. Nonprofit organizations and businesses also will have booths set up throughout the park. In addition, Fairport Harding High School graduates from any year are invited to attend and be recognized during a 3 p.m. ceremony. Admission to Fairport Harbor Community Day is free of charge. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the park and dress appropriately for the weather. Specific highlights of the event will include: • Entertainment: DJ Wild Bill McCabe will play music throughout the afternoon. Other scheduled entertainers are the Fairport Harding High School Band; Braden McCrone, a 12-year-old drummer from Madison Middle School; Nora the Explorer; and accordion player Helen Hendrickson teaming with her nephew James “Nemo” Nemecek, a guitarist and host of Lyric Bistro and Events Center’s Open Mic Night. Entertainment at this year’s festival is sponsored by CARSTAR Jeff’s Garage; Painesville Credit Union, the Hungarian Culture Club, the American Slovenian Club and Rich Lanes. The Great Fairport Harbor Quack Race also will start at 4 p.m. Proceeds from this activity benefit the Fairport Harbor Tourism Council. • Participation by area nonprofit entities: Some of this year’s nonprofit exhibitors are the Fairport Harbor Police and Fire departments; Friends of Fairport Harbor Public Library; Fairport Harbor Historical Society; groups from Fairport Harbor Schools; and local churches. • Craft booths: Crafters who will participate include Cheryl McAndrews, Flowers by Julie, Crafty Workshop and Gifts; and The Green Shepherdess. Other interested crafters who want to secure space for Fairport Harbor Community Day must submit an application by Sept. 23. For more information, contact Karen Bidlack at 440-251-3150 or by email at [email protected]. • Food: Fairport Harbor Civic Club will be serving its traditional sausage sandwiches, served by a crew consisting of Kirk and Wanda Dimmick, Verne Horton and Janice Kondik. Proceeds from the sale of these sandwiches will go toward the club’s scholarship fund. The Fairport Harding High School junior class food stand will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob. Proceeds benefit homecoming and prom. Fairport Harbor Civic Club is solely operated by and functions with volunteers, both men and women. New members are welcome, and Fairport Harbor residency is not required. “We are closing in on our 90th anniversary and looking to actively grow in membership,” Bidlack said. Each year, Fairport Harbor Civic Club sponsors a Founders Day Celebration, Easter Fest, and Community Day. All of the money raised goes back into the Fairport Harbor community, benefiting school programs, scholarships, church groups, the local library and other worthy causes.
