(Judith Retana/CBS 17) This celebration comes after Lenovo's new, elevated partnership with the Carolina Hurricanes, which includes the $60 million, 10-year naming rights deal running through the 2033-34 hockey season. Major renovations are also happening, including a $1 billion mixed-use development plan for the Raleigh Sports and Entertainment District set to start building in December 2025. Lenovo isn't just putting their name on the building, the tech giant is also now the facility's official technology partner. Lenovo North American Senior VP and President, Ryan McCurdy says fans should expect some technology upgrades. "We have a tremendous suite of technology from pocket to the cloud and there's a bunch of fan facing technology that we hope to integrate that you'll see shortly and there's stuff we're working on longer term," McCurdy said. Looking at future developments and the naming agreement, Gov. Cooper expressed optimism about the future. "It's gonna be a center of attention, so this is the right move," Cooper said. He's confident this momentum could help attract new businesses and residents. "The naming lifts us up even more as a destination place. I think a lot of people are going to want to put Raleigh on their schedule. A lot of people go around the country and go to NHL games and I think this will be a place that people want to go and they'll find out, 'Hey, this is a great place to be. Maybe I'll come back and start my business here'," the Governor said. The deal is also a show of confidence Lenovo has in the area. "We're betting on Lenovo center. We're betting on the Hurricanes. We're betting on NC State. So, its a really exciting time," McCurdy said. This also comes a week after the Centennial Authority unanimously agreed to the name change and N.C. State officials also voted in favor of the name change as well.
