Residential customers can receive a reward when they bring their working mini fridge, room air-conditioning unit, or dehumidifier to a recycling drop-off event in Bel Air on Saturday.Hosted by BGE and Harford County, the drop-off event will run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bel Air High School.BGE customers have recycled more than 4,350 units during recycling events like these since 2013, preventing over 135 tons of waste from going to the landfill.Rain or shine, BGE representatives will be at the event at Bel Air High School to safely unload old small appliances from customers’ vehicles. To be eligible for the monetary reward, units must be in working condition.Customers can drop off qualifying old but still working A/C units, dehumidifiers, and/or mini fridges for recycling and receive a $25 reward per unit, up to $100 per household. They will receive their checks in the mail approximately six to eight weeks after the event.Harford County’s Community Collection Day will have other vendors available for residents to recycle items such as cellphones and eyeglasses. Bicycles, books, linens, hearing aids, sporting goods, home décor and more will be collected by groups like Orioles Advocates, Bel Air Lions, Bel Air Friends of the Harford County Public Library, Turnkey Enterprises, JamSquad, among others.There will also be free paper shredding at this event.BGE will accept appliances from customers in any part of their service area. Customers will need a copy of their bill or their BGE account number to participate. There is a limit of four appliance rebates per customer.“Harford’s Community Collection Day is a great example of government and community organizations working together to support neighbors in need,” said Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly in a statement. “What can’t be reused will be recycled, so clear out your unwanted household items and drop them off for free on Saturday, September 21. We hope to see you there!”The Community Collection Day is sponsored by Harford County Government, BGE, Town of Bel Air, Bel Air Lions, and Harford County Public Schools.Bel Air High School is located at 100 Heighe Street, Bel Air, MD.
