OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Frontwave Arena is one of one in the North County: the first and only major sporting arena for Oceanside. “This is a legacy, this is going to be around for a hundred years. It’s for the community,” said Phil Salvagio, the owner of Frontwave Arena. Salvagio is a long way from playing goalie for the San Diego Sockers. Now he’s the owner of the arena, the Sockers and even a coach for the team, but his favorite times were always on the field. “Big legend team and playing for them it meant the world,” he said. And what’s coming through it will be the Clippers G League, the San Diego Sockers, possibly the Gulls and first-class rock shows with no confusing parking. “The success is being here today and what I think is going to happen in the future is really going to be up to the community come in here and help us build the legacy of what this area is going to be,” said Josh Elies, the CEO of Frontwave Arena. With more excitement building in North County, some locals say now they have one less reason to drive downtown. “A lot of us have to drive down to Mission Valley or downtown San Diego, but now we can have sporting events in the North County,” said Jim Desmond, a San Diego County supervisor. Volleyball, lacrosse, ice hockey, even there is a demand for sand volleyball, but pouring yards of sand could get messy. “It’s going to be fantastic for the city, just the opportunities you have here. When you look out at it even when the seats that are farthest away, you are right there,” said Ryan Keim, deputy mayor of Oceanside.
