RIVERSIDE — Murrieta Valley’s offensive line is proving its prowess. Senior running back Dorian Hoze gained 128 yards and scored twice in the first quarter, and Murrieta Valley totaled 283 rushing yards in a 62-6 nonleague rout of King on Thursday night. “Our offensive line did a great job and they were winning at the point of attack,” Murrieta Valley coach George Wilson said. Derrick Johnson, Jr. added offensive and defensive touchdowns, as Murrieta Valley (3-1 overall) earned Wilson his 75th career win. “We don’t really play guys both ways, but he’s pretty dynamic with the ball in his hands,” Wilson said. Senior quarterback Noah Cuenca completed 12 of 17 pass attempts in the second half but it wasn’t enough for King (4-1), which had its winning streak snapped. It’s the third consecutive win in the series for Murrieta Valley, which produced five rushing touchdowns to win back-to-back games for the first time this season. “We can run the ball, we can pass the ball and we can pretty much do anything right now,” Johnson said. Hoze had six carries for 50 yards and capped Murrieta Valley’s opening drive with a 9-yard touchdown run for the early lead. A quick three-and-out from King led to a 31-yard touchdown run from Kurelle Thomas three plays later, and the flood gates opened for Murrieta Valley, which scored on its first three possessions after Hoze added a 4-yard rushing touchdown late in the first quarter. “We have great running backs, and we have a lot of confidence in that part of our game,” Wilson said. Asher Dewitt connected with 6-foot-5 tight end Jacob Alvarez on a 21-yard touchdown reception for a 28-0 lead, and Ty Isaia hit Johnson for a 35-yard score and a 35-0 lead. “We probably threw more than we normally do, but (Dewitt and Isaia) are competing for the job so we want to see them throw the ball,” Wilson said. “It’s an old-school QB competition.” Murrieta Valley added two more touchdowns before halftime — a 55-yard punt return for a score from Cam Connor and a 90-yard interception return from Johnson — for a 48-0 lead at halftime. “I seen the receiver run the hitch, so broke on it and took it all the way,” Johnson said. With a clock running to start the fourth quarter, King put together a 10-play, 72-yard drive culminating in a 2-yard touchdown pass from Cuenca to Jayden Cover. Cuenca completed 16 of 33 pass attempts for 114 yards for the Wolves, who gained just 52 yards on the ground.
