It's going to be another sunny, hot day in central Indiana. Temperatures will be near record highs this afternoon. Plus, we finally have rain chances back in the forecast. Albeit, the chance is small but we will take all we can get. Temperatures are starting comfortable Friday morning, in the 50s and 60s. Once again, we will see the thermometer quickly rise through the late morning and afternoon. High temperatures will be around 90°. The record for the date in Indianapolis is 94°, set back in 1940. Our drought conditions now cover the entire state of Indiana. Burn bans have expanded to 62 of Indiana's 92 counties. We need the rain and some of us will finally get it as early as today. A cold front is sliding across the region. Ahead of it, we're seeing some showers and storms in Illinois. We're expecting to have a primarily dry day but by the late afternoon and evening, spotty to widely scattered showers and storms are expected in the state. One or two storms may even contain some stronger gusty winds or hail. Better rain chances come Sunday with widely scattered showers and storms. These continue into Monday and Tuesday. Rainfall totals may exceed 1" in some locations. Autumn officially starts at 8:44 a.m. Sunday. After a very hot close to summer, temperatures will trend to more seasonal levels, in the 70s next week.
