GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Shortly after midnight on Friday morning, a driver noticed a fire at a house on Green Bay's east side, called 911, and tried alerting the resident, leading to a quick response from fire crews. According to the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (GBMFD), crews were notified of a fire in the 1600 block of Eastman Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on September 20. Authorities say that a person who had been driving by the home noticed smoke outside of the house and called 911. Sheboygan stabbing suspect arrested after disturbance on Kentucky Avenue The witness reportedly tried to alert anyone inside the home of the fire, however, authorities say that no one was home at the time. The fire was put out in under five minutes and was contained to the garage, where it originated, and to part of the home's attic. The estimated damage to the home and its contents is valued at roughly $65,000. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. "Green Bay Fire would like thank the two people that alerted us to this fire. Their concern for others safety greatly contributed to the quick response and less fire damage to the residence," GBMFD's release concluded. No additional details were provided.
