The Biden administration on Friday announced that it has selected 25 battery technology projects to receive $3 billion in federal funding.  The projects receiving federal funds pertain to various aspects of battery production, including mineral extraction and refining, battery recycling and battery materials manufacturing.  The funds come from the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will go to projects in 14 states.  Batteries are an important piece of the transition to more climate-friendly energy sources. They can help store solar and wind power when it’s not sunny or windy. Electric vehicles are also battery-powered.  The administration said the projects will support more than 8,000 construction and 4,000 operating jobs. The selected projects are still subject to environmental review and other negotiations with the Energy Department, so they may not all ultimately receive funding.
