WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The District is cracking down on illegal pot shops. Two more businesses were shut down this week in the H Street corridor. The businesses were given a warning in March and then a cease and desist order in July. On Wednesday D.C.'s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA), along with officers from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) served closure orders to the owners of All American Papers and StonerzDC. "I'm very glad that we're seeing the city finally take action to go after and shut down some of these illegal businesses," Ward 6 councilmember, Charles Allen, said. DC police, Alcohol Beverage and Cannabis Administration shut down unlicensed cannabis retailed, arrest 2 women These are the third and fourth illegal cannabis businesses shut down since councilmember Allen's emergency legislation went into effect July 15. "They should definitely look into it. It's too many laced products apparently going on. And it's just too much. Too many robberies," Chaunteara Didley said. At StonerzDC, investigators recovered 949 grams of Marijuana laced with Amphetamine, 4,808 grams of THC laced edibles, 1,723.65 grams of THC wax and 28 grams of Entheogenic mushrooms. "We've seen others that are laced with fentanyl. This is dangerous stuff and people shouldn't trust that," Allen said. Since ABCA said both businesses posed "a credible and imminent danger to public health and safety," the businesses were shuttered with padlocks on the doors. On Thursday, there were closure notices and a lock on the door of StonerzDC, but the notice on All American Papers' door was nowhere to be seen. Instead, a sign said, "Sorry we're closed today." A man inside was changing the lock on the door. DC News Now spoke to the landlord of the building where All American Papers is located. He said when the business moved in, the owner told him they were going to operate as a gifting shop, selling high-end t-shirts and clothing and gifting marijuana. However, he said he was deceived. Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration, DC police shut down second unlicensed cannabis shop Additionally, the pizza shop next door, which was subleased to All American Papers told DC News Now the dispensary hadn't paid rent in a year and a half. Allen pointed to Congress being a hurdle to D.C.'s marijuana marketplace. "Because we have Congress blocking the District's ability to have a fully regulated marketplace, much like most other states now have in our country, it creates this very dangerous situation. And we have to keep all these workarounds to figure this out," Allen said. Allen wants the District to move more quickly in shutting illegal shops down and for marijuana users to use licensed medical marijuana stores. "For people who do want to consume, we have a legal and regulated marketplace. And again, that product is tested and could be trusted," Allen said. To date, ABCA has issued 23 cease and desist orders and 84 written warning letters to illegal cannabis businesses that didn't apply for a medical cannabis business license. No arrests were made at either location and an investigation is ongoing. The business owners also face a $10,000 fine from the ABC board.
