LANDOVER, Md. (DC News Now) — Some former Washington Commanders legends teamed up with the Special Olympics for a community event. It was the first-ever Play it Forward clinic at Northwest Stadium. Forty Special Olympic athletes attended Thursday’s clinic including Ricardo White. He said it was fun and meant the world to him to get to meet Commander’s legends and icons, Darrell Green and Santana Moss. “Today for me is everyone is out for experience and learning and everyone is out here for a purpose, and we are all special in our own way and you can’t take it from no one else and it doesn’t matter what is on the outside everyone is special in their own right,” White said. Prince George’s County Police Department hiring hundreds of new officers Green said it was an honor spending time with the kids Thursday, teaching them several football drills about running and catching the ball. “Special Olympics is more than special," Green said. "It’s about these young people and one word comes to my mind and that is 'acceptance.' I will take it one step further not only are they accepted they all get to play on the team." Black-owned business in Prince George’s County offers dairy free frozen treats Moss said he has always enjoyed giving back to help kids. “When I look at these kids and all special athletes here, I don’t look at them for who they are, I look at them as regular people like myself with dreams of wanting to be us or whatever they want to be in life,” Moss said. Special Olympics and Bank of America hosted the event and are hoping to make this an annual event and would like to do it again next year.
