WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — After being on the broadcast for the Kansas City Chiefs' win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Tony Romo is hitting the fairways in Newton. Romo is playing in the PGA Tour's Q-School Prequalifier at Sand Creek Station. Between being a father, announcer, and an NFL legend, Romo also enjoys his time on the golf course. "My dad started golfing when he was older, and so it kind of made me kind of get into it," Romo told KSN. "Like anything, you know, your dad plays the sport and says, 'Let's go golf,' and you go with your dad 'cause you want to be around him. And then so you get the bug." That bug brought him to Newton, where he's taking his third straight swing at Q School. It's his first time on the difficult course at Sand Creek Station. "You got trouble on the right and left every hole," Romo said. "I mean, they got weeds on both sides, water out of bounds. And so any mishits, and especially when it's windy like it's been each day, it's like you have to be dialed in on every shot and commit." Mother of Wilson Price asks if son’s death was preventable Romo said he enjoys having a new outlet for competition while also learning new lessons. "Patience is probably one of the big keys in the sport," Romo said. "Not letting the last hole affect you and trusting what you do. I lose plenty of times, but I feel like that's a gift because I've had two back surgeries. And so to be able to still play a little bit of a sport is, I feel, you know, like a gift that I get at this age." While his future in the sport is uncertain, Romo said his goal is to continue to improve at the game. "I don't know if it stays the same or if I become incredible, which I'm really thinking is right around the corner any moment now," Romo said. "But that's the ultimate goal is just to improve and be the best version of yourself you can be." Romo finished the second round seven over, tied for 68th place. He said his goal in round three is the course record. Click here to follow the rest of the tournament. KSN's Asia Cymone Smith received a golf lesson from Romo.
