BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - Local officials are making sure camping is an option for people heading to Northeast Wisconsin in April for the NFL draft. Many local campground officials told Local 5 News they've already been getting lots of call from people interested in making reservations for a camping spot during NFL draft week. "I think there's only a couple tent sites left so we're almost booked already," said Paula Renon who works for Apple Creek Campground in De Pere. She said they've received calls from people from all over the country who plan to come to Northeast Wisconsin for the draft in April. The employees at the campground said they're crossing their fingers that the weather is all right and that there's no snow. Appleton’s Kaleidoscope Academy hosts community for Family Night "Our biggest thing is the grounds, getting that cleaned up for the winter," she said when asked if they're doing anything special to prepare for the large crowds at the campground for the draft next year. "We're going to start a little bit earlier to start working on that." Brown County officials said they're opening up some of their campgrounds about two or three weeks earlier than normal next year so that people can stay there during the draft. They will have about 250 campsites available across their three campgrounds (Bay Shore, the Restoration Camp, and the fairgrounds). Reservations for these campsites open up on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Reservations made at Bay Shore and the Restoration Camp must be made online here while reservations at the Brown County fairgrounds can be made over the phone at (920) 448-6242. Those interested must book for at least three nights between April 18 and April 30. These campsites will cost $100 plus taxes and fees. Brown County officials said they can't guarantee water at every campsite and advised people to prepare their RV's with heat, water, etc. They said they're exploring the possibility of getting a shuttle service that will drive back-and-forth between the campgrounds and Lambeau Field. "We all know that with Northeast Wisconsin weather we don't know yet, it's kind of like flip a coin," said Brown County executive Troy Streckenbach. "We'll be prepared for whatever ends up happening." "I think it's easily going to double what we're typically doing in an April," he said. He said he's also already getting calls from people interested in setting up shop at his RV park during the draft. "I think we'll start seeing more because once you get out of that circle of Green Bay and Brown County that will fill up first and then it will start trickling further down this way," he said. Schibbelhut said he's planning to have watch parties at the RV park during the NFL draft and other entertainment for folks staying there. He said they're also exploring having people come by the campground and shuttle campers to the NFL draft at Lambeau. Schibbelhut and others hoping to make happy campers out of lots of NFL draft attendees this spring. "You leave the chaos and come and relax in your own spot," said Renon when asked why camping is a good option for those going to the NFL draft.
