(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) shared new information regarding the two students accused of making false school threats. El Paso County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Kurt Smith said the threats made by the two students were related. The pair allegedly made several threats across the community, which resulted in more than 160 students not attending school in one day. Smith also shared the students are part of the Lewis-Palmer School District 38. UPDATE: EPSO gives update on alleged school threats, students facing charges "This is something that's gonna follow them for the rest of their lives. A criminal charge is not something that easily goes away. They're looking at a long court process to go through," said Smith. "They also need to consider that a lot of the information, a lot of this, will go towards when they try to go to college. This could have an effect on college and their plans for the future." The students facing charges have not been identified because of their age. As to what happens next in the case, EPSO says it's up to the District Attorney's Office and the judges. The Sheriff's Office added these students could face jail time and thousands of dollars in fines. EPSO is urging all parents to talk to their children about the consequences of making threats. The Sheriff's Office wants students to report threats if they truly believe there is danger. Parents and children can report legitimate concerns by downloading the free Safe to Tell app. Threats can also be reported by contacting law enforcement.
