BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Edward Kindt of Salamanca, who raped and murdered a woman in 1999 at the age of 15, was sentenced to seven days for violating parole earlier this summer, the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision announced Thursday. Aditionally, officials said the seven-day sentence has already been satisfied as Kindt was in custody before the final hearing rendered the decision for the sentence on Aug. 15. He was charged with 15 parole violations, all technical and therefore, less severe. On July 24, Kindt was arrested for violating his parole and escaping his housing in Dutchess County to return to Salamanca. He was scheduled for an office report on July 23 and when he didn't show up, attempts to locate him were unsuccessful.  According to court documents, Kindt had allowed his GPS tracker to die instead of charging it. An absconder warrant was issued to help take him into custody. Transcripts from the hearing last month show Kindt told the judge he came back to Salamanca for his birthday, a religious holiday and to visit family. It is alleged that Kindt has violated his parole before. According to documents provided to WIVB News 4, he was arrested for the first time in November 2023 for violating parole and was held at Dutchess County Jail until mid-December. Kindt, who is Seneca, was banned from all Seneca Nation territories for a year when he was released. The Seneca Nation has since re-upped the ban for at least one more year, lasting until at least 2025. The state's department of corrections said they are preparing to release Kindt back to Dutchess County. There, he will be put back on GPS monitoring and "closely supervised."
