The Detroit Lions were back on the practice field on Thursday as they prepared to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 of the 2024 season. The Lions opened the week with several players listed on the injury report, while the Cardinals were operating at almost full strength. Fortunately, Detroit did get some good news that should leave fans hopeful. Let’s take a look at Thursday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know. Of note, any changes from yesterday’s report will be bolded. No practice CB Terrion Arnold (illness) CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring) S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) Arnold misses his second practice with an undisclosed illness. It can be hard to predict how quickly players recover from illnesses, but based on how defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was talking about Arnold during his press conference, it sure sounded like he expected the rookie to play this weekend. Soft tissue injuries can be troublesome and the Lions tend to take them slow, but Rakestraw’s second absence this week is less than encouraging. After injuring his hamstring in pre-game warmups, the Lions second-round pick has been unable to practice since Sunday, and unless he finds the field for Friday’s practice, he will likely be inactive for a second straight week. Melifonwu continues to miss practices, but the fact he has not been placed on injured reserve is an indicator the Lions seem hopeful he will be able to return soon. The real question is: how quickly will he be able to return to game action after missing so much time? Limited practice WR Isaiah Williams (abdomen) LG Graham Glasgow (knee) — returned to practice LB Alex Anzalone (concussion) — returned to practice Glasgow and Anzalone returning to practice on Thursday are very good signs for their rehabilitation. Glasgow will likely need another practice under his belt before we should feel confident he will be game-ready, while Anzalone still has more steps to go to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol. Both have a chance to play this Sunday. Last week, Williams was a midweek addition to the injury report but he has been able to get some practicing in this week, which means he could be close to returning. If he’s not able to go, it could be another week where Tom Kennedy gets elevated. Full practice WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (quad) EDGE Marcus Davenport (groin) S Kerby Joseph (back) — upgraded from limited Wednesday St. Brown is stacking practices and looks like he will be just fine. He told his podcast audience last night that he’s “all good” for the Cardinals game. After missing every practice in Week 2, it was a bit surprising to see Davenport practice in full on Wednesday. But now, with two full practices under his belt, things are really pointing toward him being ready to go this week. Joseph worked through his hamstring injury last week but a back injury has limited him this week. An upgrade to a full practice is a good sign he is on the right path to start on Sunday. Cardinals' Thursday injury report Limited RT Kelvin Beachum (Hamstring) - NEW INJURY DL Dante Stills (Shoulder) Full WR Xavier Weaver (Oblique) OL Will Hernandez (Ankle) From Zach Gershman of the Cardinals team site: “Once Jonah Williams went down with a knee injury, landing him on injured reserve, Kelvin Beachum assumed the role as the Cardinals starting right tackle. Ahead of the matchup against the Lions, Beachum landed on the injury report as a limited participant with a hamstring injury. It’s a player worth noting since he and the offensive line will have their hands full with Aidan Hutchinson coming to town. The Beachum injury could be a potentially huge problem for the Cardinals, seeing as he was already a replacement player. Mid-week injuries can be troublesome for players to recover from, and if he can’t play, the Cardinals will turn to OT4, Jackson Barton.
