SF Oktoberfest on Front Street Friday will be state’s first ‘Entertainment Zone’ event
Sep 19, 2024
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco's Oktoberfest on Front block party will take place Friday along a single block of Front Street downtown. The festival will be centered around Schroeder's, the oldest Bavarian beer hall in the city with neighboring bars, Harrington's Bar & Grill and Royal Exchange also participating.
The event will be California's first-ever "Entertainment Zone" event. Recently passed legislation allows for brick-and-mortar bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages to be consumed on the street at the event.
Thundercat to play free SF show next month
In addition to boots full of beer and traditional Hofbrau fare like bratwurst and pretzels, the event will feature live music from AlpineSound and Ladyhosen. There will also be traditional Oktoberfest games like axe throwing, pretzel toss, stein holding and (non-alcoholic) beer-chugging.
Attendees are encouraged to "celebrate with lederhosen and dirndl" during the festivities. The event is free to attend but RSVPing is encouraged.
Friday's event is being put on by the Downtown SF Partnership, which oversees 43 blocks of SF's Financial District and Jackson Square Historic District.
