Storms return to mostly eastern New Mexico Friday. A fall storm system will bring more storms on Saturday, with cooler temperatures by Sunday. It has been another quiet, warm, and dry day across New Mexico Thursday, with just a few high clouds moving through the state. Clouds will increase overnight as moisture moves into the state from the south. This could bring a couple light sprinkles into the Albuquerque Metro to start the day, but it will be dry the rest of the afternoon. It will be dry and breezy in the western half of New Mexico. In the eastern half of the state though, scattered showers and storms are likely starting late Friday morning and continuing through late Friday night. Scattered showers will once again be possible Saturday morning up the Rio Grande Valley from Las Cruces to Taos, including the Albuquerque Metro, as a fall storm system moves into the state. By Saturday afternoon, a cold front will be sweeping across the state, bringing breezy to windy conditions behind it and strong storms along and ahead of it. The highest chance for storms Saturday will be along and north of I-40 and in the eastern half of New Mexico. This storm system will move out Saturday night leaving behind some of the coolest temperatures of the season Sunday morning. Fall officially begins at 6:43 AM Mountain Time Sunday, and it will definitely feel more like fall. High temperatures Sunday afternoon will even be cooler than normal for this time of year. The cooler conditions will stick around into early next week. Forecast models are coming into better agreement that a storm system will again impact New Mexico starting next Tuesday, bringing back widespread chances for rain and thunderstorms, along with even cooler temperatures, through at least next Thursday.
