McKee speaks on Washington bridge demolition pause

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Gov. Dan McKee Thursday made a statement for the first time since the Attorney General announced the demolition of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge was put on hold.
The state is citing the need to preserve evidence of its failure.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportations had already started the demolition work previously.
“They brought it to a point where now the legal team stepped in and made that request,” McKee said. “That request was not made by the legal team as when we started the demolition, and they feel as though that this point in time was the time they called us.”
He added that some work on the ramps that doesn’t interfere with the legal team collecting evidence can continue.
