CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island saw a slight increase in both its unemployment rate and jobs added during August, according to the R.I. Department of Labor and Training (DLT). Last month's job numbers from the DLT showed the state added 300 jobs when compared to July. The state's unemployment rate also ticked up from 4.5% in July to 4.6% in August. When comparing the data with August 2023, roughly 4,200 jobs have been added, while unemployment has risen by 1.7%. As of last month, 564,400 Rhode Islanders were employed after a decrease of 900 in July.
