INDIANAPOLIS -- Four people, including a juvenile, have been arrested on attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting at an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The violence started when IMPD officers were in area near Lasalle and Brookside Parkway South drive looking to serve a warrant on Sept. 11. Officers spotted four suspects wearing masks in a Cadillac. Police claim those suspects circled the block before they opened fire on one of their undercover SUVs. Multiple bullets tore holes in the side of the police vehicle and an IMPD sergeant avoided being hit. IMPD officials said the case is an example of how officers put their lives on the line every day to keep the city safe. "Not only are our officers facing dangers every day, but we have citizens facing dangers and that's why we do what we do and we go after those offenders who have caused harm to our citizens," IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson said. During the shooting, a family who lives on the street was reportedly caught in the line of fire when bullets broke their window and damaged the side of their home. "My wife was laying on the couch right where the bullet came through," said Robert Bentley. "As soon as I got two steps away from the couch, I heard shattering glass and my wife hit the floor off the couch." While the bullet damaged a vase in their living room, Bentley and his wife were not hurt. Court records show this week IMPD served multiple search warrants on the suspect's homes and three additional people were arrested on drug and weapons charges, including: Montrell Austin Outstanding warrant Possession of a machine gun conversion device Dewuan Woods Outstanding warrant Serious violent felon with a firearm Possession of cocaine Dealing marijuana Alexandra Pirtle Possession of cocaine Dealing marijuana During those raids, police seized multiple firearms, along with cocaine and marijuana.
