LENOIR, N.C. – A man is facing criminal charges after allegedly stealing a Spectrum utility truck while an employee was working on power lines, according to the City of Lenoir Police Department. Late Wednesday night, police received a call about a Spectrum “boom truck” being stolen while the worker was servicing lines near the 2400 block of Morganton Boulevard in Lenoir, according to police. Police said Frank Moody got in the vehicle and drove off before striking an overhanging utility line, causing a pole to break. At the time, the employee was working in the aerial basket. The vehicle, eventually, came to a stop on the side of the road. The worker fell from the basket during the incident, and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Moody was arrested without incident. He has been charged with the following: Larceny of a Motor Vehicle Injuring Wires and Fixtures of Utility Companies Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury The crash caused significant utility outages in Caldwell County, which have now been restored. Moody was issued a $100,000 bond. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Lenoir Police Department at 828-757-2100.
