BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State police on Thursday charged a former Berkeley County detention deputy with assault and battery and misconduct in office. The incident happened last May while the deputy, Aisha Zakiya Davis, was employed at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. According to affidavits released by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Davis is accused of stomping a victim in his groin area several times, which caused nonconsensual touching of the victim’s private parts. Documents further state the former deputy also struck the victim with a closed fist while they were restrained in handcuffs. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office asked SLED to investigate the matter. "When we became aware of the allegations, I immediately contacted SLED to investigate. SLED’s case findings resulted in a former Detention Deputy facing charges," said Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis. “We expect all employees to uphold their oath and the law.” Davis is charged with second-degree assault and battery and misconduct in office and booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center.
