Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Meko and Morgan are back on the Pride of Detroit YouTube channel, discussing the Detroit Lions' Week 3 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, with a focus on containing QB Kyler Murray. Let’s get one thing out of the way that I think a lot of people have some preconceived notions about—nobody is good at defending mobile quarterbacks. It isn’t a Detroit Lions-specific thing. There is a reason every team in the NFL wants a quarterback like the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen, or the Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray. Each presents major issues for defenses and are likely the cause of many sleepless nights for defensive coordinators around the league. With Murray, many around the league wrote him off over the last few years due to one factor or another. In Week 14 of the 2022 season, Murray suffered a non-contact injury that resulted in a torn ACL, causing him to miss the first nine weeks of 2023. The Cardinals would finish with a 4-13 record, identical to their 2022 season that led to the dismissal of former coach Kliff Kingsbury. Now in his second year with the organization, coach Jonathan Gannon has implemented more of his vision for the Arizona offense. More heavy personnel-groupings using multiple tight ends, and shot plays down the field that utilize Murray’s strong arm and athleticism. Meko and I (Morgan) broke down some tape from the Cardinals’ first two weeks of the season, and how quarterback Kyler Murray presents unique challenges for defenses with the way he plays the position. We also touch on the impact that Cardinals safety Budda Baker is having on an improving defense, and why it is so difficult for offenses to account for him in the run game. Find all that and more in the video below or via this link on YouTube: As always, please be sure to like and subscribe to the Pride of Detroit YouTube Channel. It helps us a ton and we really appreciate all of the support.
