Photo by Mike Mulholland/Getty Images JJ Watt has some extremely nice things to say about Aidan Hutchinson following his dominant performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When it comes to pass rushers, there are not many that know better about the craft than future Hall of Famer JJ Watt. The Houston Texans legend, finished his career with 114.5 sacks, which currently ranks 24th all-time in the NFL. Detroit Lions pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson has caught the attention of Watt, and during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show this week, Watt had some very high praise for the NFC Defensive Player of the Week Lions defender. “The guy’s a beast. He’s a freak,” Watt said. “It’s awesome to watch. He clearly works on his game. He’s got some great technique, some great tactics.” Watt goes on to say that Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t do himself any favors, dropping too deep into the pocket and making life a little easier for Hutchinson to grab the 4.5 sacks he did on last Sunday. But, ultimately, Watt gives it up for Hutchinson’s fantastic afternoon. “He had three sacks in the first quarter,” Watt continued. “You’re sitting on that bench feeling immaculate. Just sitting there like, ‘This is great.’ Then you go out there and you play a little more loose, you play a little more free, and all of a sudden there he ends up with 4.5 (sacks). Big, big day for him.” You can watch the entire clip below: "Aidan Hutchinson has great techniques and great tactics..He had a BIG day on Sunday" ~ @JJWatt #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/zsu5suqCqG— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) September 18, 2024 On Wednesday, the NFL released a list of 167 modern-era nominees for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. The list, like always, features a ton of Lions legends like Lomas Brown and Herman Moore. Bill Belichick uttered quite possibly the stupidest thing you could say about the Lions’ Matt Patricia era: Not a headline from The Onion:Bill Belichick: Detroit Lions enjoying 'fruits of the labor' from Matt Patricia https://t.co/mtl7B6luUJ via @freep— Dave Birkett (@davebirkett) September 17, 2024 This is from last week, but it slipped through the cracks. This profile on Jameson Williams from Colton Pouncy of The Athletic is absolutely fantastic. A cool piece on how good Derrick Barnes was against the Buccaneers: A couple of worthwhile film breakdowns this week: Dave Birkett on the red zone struggles, Justin Rogers on Hutchison, Terrion Arnold, and DJ Reader.
