ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Halloween is right around the corner — and Rochester has many events to get yourself in a spooky mood! Many of these attractions are not recommended for children younger than 12, people with health issues, pregnant women, or people sensitive to flashing lights. With that in mind, here are some scary events happening in the Rochester area: Haunted Houses Nightmare Manor Henrietta's most well-known haunted attractions return to Southtown Plaza near the end of September. The attraction has six areas to explore — such as The Nest, the Sinister Sewer, or Hillbilly Hell. The attraction opens on Friday, September 27, and will be open mostly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October. The final two days of Nightmare Manor will be on Wednesday, October 30, and Halloween. Dark Matter Scream Works Greece's haunted attraction has kicked off early before the Halloween season! Located at Parkway Plaza on Dewey Avenue, Dark Matter Scream Works features three haunted houses — the Shadowvale Sanitarium, Scream Works Phobia Factory, and Grimwood Hall. The attraction will be open on weekends through November 2 starting at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on their website. Insomnia House The free Insomnia House haunted attraction returns to Avocado Lane to scare you for a good cause! Explore the attraction's 120-foot backlit maze with twists and turns, listen to scary ghost stories at the Spooky Acres Cemetery, and on opening day, enjoy donut holes and cider! The maze has difficulty settings, depending on how scared you want to be. Although it's free, the organizers are accepting donations for AutismUp to provide support and services for people with autism. Insomnia House is open on September 27 and 28 and then every Friday and Saturday through Halloween. Hours are from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Haunted Folklore and Tours Rolling Hills Asylum Tours This one is for all the believers of the paranormal — tours are offered all year long at Rolling Hills Asylum in East Bethany!
