SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man faces gun charges including assault and battery of a police officer after allegedly trespassing in a parking lot. Former Patriots player accused of assaulting 82-year-old at North Providence gym According to the Springfield Police Department, officers were patrolling the area of Marble Street when they located a vehicle in the parking lot of the South End Community Center which was closed at the time. Officers told the three occupants of the car that they were trespassing and noticed the right-seat passenger, had a fanny pack, which is commonly used to conceal firearms. The same passenger then got out of the car and walked away. He began running away when he allegedly struck an officer in the chest. During the interaction, the suspect let go of the fanny pack and an officer found a loaded large-capacity firearm inside. Assisting officers arrived and arrested 19-year-old Noel Martinez of Springfield.
