PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence City Council will meet tonight to discuss ways of honoring the late executive director of the Nonviolence Institute, Cedric Huntley. The city council is looking to rename Richardson Park and its adjoining street in honor of “Mr. Ced.” Huntley died July 10th after a long career of community service. He led the Nonviolence Institute as executive director after being a board member during its founding in 2001, and was inducted into the Rhode Island Criminal Justice Hall of Fame in 2022. In addition to Huntley’s street renaming, the council also plans to rename Dudley Street after the late Dell G. Padgett. Padgett was a cherished member of the South Providence community who contributed heavily to the arts, and by some was considered the best-known member of the 1950’s R&B doo-wop group the Castaleers, who were inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014. The council also remembers the life and legacy of Walter Henry Cook, who lived a life of service to our country and passed away on July 17th. Categories: News, Rhode Island
