PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The father of a 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed in Providence on August 29 attempted to run over the alleged shooters with his car before the shooting incident, according to authorities. Nelson Pires was held without bail due to an alleged probation violation out of Newport County, and faces two charges of child endangerment and a charge of driving without a license. According to authorities, Pires was in a verbal exchange with the two alleged shooters, Ahmari Cabrera and Shaheem Nathaniel just before the shooting. After the exchange, Cabrera and Nathaniel left in separate vehicles and were followed by Pires. Pires then allegedly bumped their car twice upon their arrival at a party. One of the suspected shooters then exited their vehicle, when Pires allegedly attempted to drive over them with his vehicle with his daughter, 7-year-old Ny’eil Pires and a young son in the back seat. At this time, Pires backed up his vehicle and was fired at by the two suspects, according to authorities. One shot hit his daughter, leading to her death a on September 2.
