(Updated) Three months after New Haven changed the law to allow one top city official to remain in her job, that official is packing up and leaving town.The official chief administrative officer (CAO), Regina Rush-Kittle, is leaving on an as-yet undetermined date in November, Mayor Justin Elicker confirmed to the Independent Tuesday afternoon.Rush Kittle-came to the job, and to New Haven, in late 2021. The CAO, a deputy-mayor level post, oversees departments including police, fire, parks, and 911. On June 4, the Board of Alders voted to grant Rush-Kittle an exception to a city charter requirement that she live in New Haven to hold the job.“Regina is planning on moving on in November. She hasn’t given us official notice. She let us know she is moving on to the next chapter of her life,” Mayor Elicker said. ​“We’ll be for someone someone to fill big shoes.” He noted that during her tenure, Rush-Kittle filled in as acting police chief, acting human resources director, and acting emergency operations chief.“It’s tough to see her go. I also understand that she wants to move on to the next chapter of her life.”Rush-Kittle, who did not embrace the role of speaking with the press during her brief tenure here, did not confirm she was leaving the city when contacted Tuesday morning.She was asked about a rumor that she had taken a new part-time in the Hartford area.“I do not have a job in Hartford,” she responded.She was asked if she’s leaving her job in the city.“I do not have a job in Hartford,” she repeated.She was asked again if she is remaining in her job as New Haven chief administrative officer, a deputy-mayor level position that oversees departments including police, fire, parks, and 911. She came to the city after a career in the state police.“I do not have a job in Hartford,” Rush-Kittle said again. ​“That’s what you asked me. That’s what I’m confirming.”
