WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) – It’s okay to be different. That’s the message in the new children’s book, written by a Winston-Salem second-grade student. To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, FOX8 spoke with 8-year-old, Alice Flores Euceda to hear about her book. “Always be happy,” Alice said as she read the cover of the book. Those three words shaped her book. “Because I wanted all the kids to be happy,” Alice said. It also formed her outlook on life. “It is okay to be different, it is okay if somebody is different, if you are different, you are different it is because you got traits of your mom and dad, me too,” Alice said. Alice was born in Honduras and now attends school at Mineral Springs Elementary in Winston-Salem. “Everyone is different in the whole world because sometimes I feel different but I don’t care when I am different,” Alice said. Her book opens up a positive perspective for all ages. “Believe in yourself and never give up, sometimes things can be hard, but never give up,” Alice said as she read her book. The words on the page, whether in Spanish or English translate into the classroom and out into the world. “We have already starting sharing it of course with our students here at mineral springs but again, positivity to remind students to not give up, stay the course, even when things get hard is a great message for all kids,” said Marquita Johnson, the principal at Mineral Springs Elementary. It’s a timeless lesson, to be happy. “Now and even when we are older,” Alice said as she read. It’s time to discover what makes you smile, whether it is writing a book or maybe, following your dreams of becoming a singer. 8-year-old Alice knows right where to start. “Let’s find out together on these pages,” Alice said. If you want your own copy, ‘Always Be Happy’ is available on Amazon in both English and Spanish.
