Pedestrian killed in tractortrailer hitandrun on Interstate 40 in North Carolina

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- NC State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash on Wednesday, south of Morganton, in Burke County.
Master Trooper Christopher Casey with Troop F confirms with Queen City News the deadly crash happened around 9:20 a.m. on Interstate 40 West, near Enola Road (Exit 104).

Troopers said a tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-40 and struck a pedestrian who was walking along the interstate. Following the collision, the tractor-trailer fled the scene.
The pedestrian, identified as Alfredo Hernandez-Son, 25, of Morganton, died from his injuries. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2018 or newer Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer that’s missing the right front headlight assembly, Highway Patrol said.
The vehicle will have right front bumper and hood damage.

Highway Patrol is asking anyone who may have been involved or seen something in the area of I-40 West at Enola Road from 4 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. Wednesday to please call 828-466-5500.
