BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- NC State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash on Wednesday, south of Morganton, in Burke County. Master Trooper Christopher Casey with Troop F confirms with Queen City News the deadly crash happened around 9:20 a.m. on Interstate 40 West, near Enola Road (Exit 104). Winston-Salem neighbors unhappy with homeless encampments Troopers said a tractor-trailer was traveling west on I-40 and struck a pedestrian who was walking along the interstate. Following the collision, the tractor-trailer fled the scene. The pedestrian, identified as Alfredo Hernandez-Son, 25, of Morganton, died from his injuries. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2018 or newer Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer that’s missing the right front headlight assembly, Highway Patrol said. The vehicle will have right front bumper and hood damage.
